Back Pack - Kids at risk for hunger are sent home on weekends and other out-of-school times with food in a discreet back pack or Lagniappe Pack until access to Federal breakfast and lunch programs resume. ![]() In addition to providing nutritious food for the children, they have the opportunity to participate in hospitality training, thus giving them marketable skills for future opportunities. Each site is rooted in its neighborhood with involvement from parents, children, other adults, and organizations. Children eat in a restaurant-style setting and participate in all aspects of the program. Kids Cafe' - Based on the nation program of America's Second Harvest, Kids Cafe' has a local twist. This program supplements our Kids Cafe' Program. Distributes this food through on-site feeding programs. Gathers prepared foods from restaurants, hotels, caterers, and conventions. Second Helpings - Prepared and perishable food rescue. Food is donated to the Food Bank then distributed to member agencies to be given to Louisianians that require this service. ![]() Surplus Food Programs - Concerns Second Harvest Food Bank, Food Manufacturers/ Distributors, Grocers and Brokers, and Farmers within our 23 parish service territory. The New Orleans City Council has set up a food policy to study how policy can help people access food. ![]() ProgramsĬommunity Food Systems Assessment - Universities within our 23 parish service area study how food goes from farmer to consumer. To acquire and distribute food in partnership with organizations serving people in need. ![]()
